STUDENTS' PERCEPTIONS ON READING IN LITERAL READING CLASS USING PRINTED TEXT AND DIGITAL TEXT AT ENGLISH DEPARTMENT OF STKIP PGRI JOMBANG
Abstract
Technological developments in the current era of globalization have certainly entered the realm of education, where technology that is growing rapidly and very modern also affects the way students learn. One of them is in learning media which also follows technological developments, especially media for reading such as digital text. The purpose of this study was to find out how students perceive reading using digital text and printed text in Literal Reading material. The participants of this study were 2020A students who took the Literal Reading course. This research method uses asurvey method in the form of a questionnaire adapted from Demirici (2007). Quantitative data was collected using online questionnaires posted on Google forms. Meanwhile, qualitative data was collected using interviews with 2020A students.The results of the study showed that students’ perceptions of them prefer reading printed texts because it is motivating, interesting, and in accordance with their expectations of how to read. The main problem they encountered in reading digital text was because the light from the screen could irritate their eyes, it was difficult to focus and they were not used to reading using digital text. From this study, the lectures of Literal Readingncan get more in-depth information about 2020A class students, who pay more attention to the learning materials that are in accordance with the
appropriate aspects.
