Abstract
Mathematical connection is the ability to connect or relate mathematics to other subjects or other topics. Mathematical connection skills can be developed through learning mathematics at school. Presenting math problems in the form of story problems can train students to use and develop mathematical connections. Connections can be influenced by
thinking styles. Thinking style is a mindset that distinguishes the way a person receives and processes information. The purpose of this study was to describe students' mathematical connection abilities with concrete sequential, abstract sequential, concrete
random, and abstract random thinking styles in solving math problems.
This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this study were students of class X MIPA 2 MIPA SMA PGRI 2 Jombang as many as 4 students, with the categories of sequential thinking style, abstract sequential, concrete random, and abstract random. The data collection method in this study used the test and interview method with the main instrument of the researcher himself and the supporting instruments in the form of a thinking style questionnaire, mathematical connection ability test sheet, and interview guidelines. The data analysis technique was carried out by reducing, presenting data and drawing conclusions. Checking the validity of research data is done
by time triangulation.
The results of this study indicate that SK and SA subjects in connecting between mathematical topics are able to write down what is known, what is asked and the mathematical model used in solving problems, connecting mathematics with other fields of study, the subject is able to mention concepts from other fields of study and explain
their relationship with mathematical concepts. , and connecting with everyday life is able to explain the application of the problem in everyday life. AK subjects in connecting between mathematical topics are able to write down what is known, what is asked but are not able to write mathematical models, in connecting mathematics with other fields of
study are able to explain concepts in other fields of study and explain their relationship to mathematical concepts, and are able to explain the application of problems in life daily. AA subjects in connecting between topics in mathematics are able to write down what is
known, what is asked but are not able to write mathematical models, the subject is also unable to explain the concepts of other fields of study that exist in the problem but the subject is able to explain the application of the problem in everyday life .
