THE SEARCH OF WOMEN'S SELF-IDENTITY IN THE SUN AND HER FLOWER POETRY BY RUPI KAUR

Abstract


This study aims to analyze identity in Rupi Kaur's anthology entitled The Sun and Her Flower, which was published in 2017. Based on the scope limitation, the researcher set two research objectives, namely: analyzing the factor of women fighting back and  analyzing the female self-identity used by Rupi Kaur in her poetry.  This study uses a descriptive qualitative research design and the approach used in this study is a liberal feminism approach. The data source is the poetry The Sun and her Flower by Rupi Kaur, while the data is text, phrases in poetry that contain identity. The researcher observed the book of poetry collection The Sun and Her Flower by reading and then analyzing the data with content and phrase analysis as the research instrument. The results of the study show that the identity of the woman contained in the book collection  The Sun and Her Flower is a woman who has experienced betrayal. Then experience a downturn, then a woman slowly rises up from adversity, then she begins to turn over a new
leaf. Finally, she found a new person who made him have to continue living hes life and find her identity as a woman. All the pain experienced by the female character is resolved with a closed fight that she does individually by forgetting all the painful memories and rising from adversity by finding new people by looking for identity within the woman.
